Have you already started adding and removing project tasks to your timeline on SharePoint with the Timeline Web Part and are looking for the best way to monitor these tasks? With the all-new-to-SharePoint-2013 Project Summary Web Part, you can do just this. Monitoring all tasks for a project from a Task List and viewing it on a Site has never been easier with this great new addition to SharePoint Project Sites.
Adding the Project Summary Web Part to your site:
1. On the Edit page, select the Insert Web Part tab from the Ribbon. From the Categories menu, select Content Rollup and then Project Summary from the Parts menu:
2. After inserting the Web Part, you will see one of two views, depending on whether or not the current site has a Task List.
- If the current site does NOT have a Task List, you will see the following displayed:
- If the current site has a Task List, you will see the following displayed (as a note, default, if your site has multiple Task Lists, the Web Part will select the first Task List found on the current site to be displayed first):
Configuring the Web Part for additional Task List(s) in the current site:
Adding additional Task Lists to your current project site can be accomplished quickly and easily by following a couple of simple steps in the Tool Pane:
1. Go to Edit Page Mode and select Edit Web Part:
2. In the Tool Pane, you are able to view and select other tasks from your Primary Task List:
3. After you have selected another task to add from your Primary Task List, it will now be displayed on the Project Summary Web Part:
Monitoring Project Health on the Project Summary Web Part:
On the Project Summary Web Part, task data is organized into two sections to make monitoring your projects’ health at a glance simple and straightforward. On the right side of the Web Part, you will see that project tasks are displayed in order of their due date:
On the left side, you will see project tasks displaying how many days are left until the project task is due:
