New Minor Release of SharePoint Video Library: Digital Asset Management Just Got Better!

Bamboo Solutions recently released a new version of SharePoint Video Library, a custom Document Library that allows users to manage their video and audio files.  Better still is the fact that SharePoint Video Library works on BOTH SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2007 platforms!

What’s new in Release 1.3, you ask?

  • Ability to define a custom thumbnail image. One of the great features of the SharePoint Video Library is that it will auto-generate thumbnails based on the uploaded video. That’s great, but what about audio files?  With the new release, when you upload a file to the SharePoint Video Library, simply enter the URL of the desired image to display in the Custom Thumbnail field (a Hyperlink/Picture column) and that image will be used for display.

  • YouTube videos have returned!  In the initial Bamboo Labs release (yep, SharePoint Video Library is another graduate of Bamboo Labs), users could optionally create a new item in the SharePoint Video Library providing a URL to a YouTube video and the library would stream the video from YouTube.  Well YouTube support is back and is now better than ever!  To connect to a YouTube video, simply select the newly renamed New Media File Link and provide the URL to the desired YouTube video.
  • Multi-file upload.  In Release 1.3, you can now upload more than one video file at a time, saving valuable time.

The new features listed above only scratch the surface of the capabilities of the SharePoint Video Library.
