List Bulk Import 4.0: How to Import Data from Local to SharePoint 2016

Challenge:

Your company has recently invested in SharePoint SP2016. How do you get your existing network file directories while maintaining the same file structure?

Solution:

One of the import tools provided by List Bulk Import is Local to SharePoint. With this tool, you can quickly import entire file structures into existing Document Libraries with just a few clicks.

How to use it?

From the main screen, select the Local to SharePoint option.

NOTE: Before proceeding, confirm that the Document Library you want to import the file structure to already exists in your SharePoint Site.

Go to the Source tab, then select a folder to replicate to the SharePoint list.

In the Target tab, select SharePoint version, Site URL, Authentication, User Name, and Password.

In the Migration tab, after selecting the directory to import, you have a variety of options to choose from:

  • Copy folders and subfolders – this will create all the subfolders found in the selected root directory in the Document Library
  • Copy files within folders – this will retrieve files in both the root and the subfolders.
  • Copy all versions – this is available if the source is an existing SharePoint Document Library and would copy all versions and import them into the Target library. Since we selected a local or network directory as the source, this option is now disabled.

Click the MIGRATE button to start importing data from your local to your SharePoint list.
