The way each chart type displays data varies depending on the specific purpose of the chart. In the latest release of Chart Plus, we provide new charts, including Scatter, Polar, Radar, and Funnel. Scatter Chart is similar to Line Chart but helpfully displays data points. Radar Chart has a sequence of equiangular spokes, similar to a spider’s web so that a line is drawn connecting the data values for each point. Polar Chart is a circular graph on which data points are displayed using the angle, beginning from the center point. Funnel Chart is similar to a 100% Stacked Column chart and displays values as progressively decreasing proportions, amounting to 100% in total. In this article, we will give you a step-by-step guide to setting up and configuring the charts.
Scatter chart type
Scatter charts are useful for showing the relationship between different sets of data, although it is the same line chart. And you can see additional information in the form of tooltips when you hover over any relevant area.
Step 1: Select the Chart Setup section: Chart Type tab: Scatter.
Simply choose the type you require:
Step 2: Select the Chart Options tab.
The Data Label option under Y(Value)Axis should apply to both the X-Axis and Y-Axis values for scatter charts. However, Bubble Chart only has a “Y” value displayed in the data label and the tooltips should follow the “x, y, Size: z” format.
For Scatter Chart or Scatter Line Chart or Scatter Spline Chart, X (Value) Axis field can be either a Date/Time or a Numeric field only and Y (Value) Axis Series can only be a numeric field.
For Bubble Chart, X (Value) Axis field and Y (Value) Axis Series, and Z (Size) Value field can only be numeric field types.
Step 3: Customize the value of X-Axis and Y-Axis in the X-Axis tab and the Y-Axis tab.
The X-Axis tab for scatter charts should mimic the Y-Axis tab settings, with the exception of “Display Data Labels” (Y-Axis only).
Step 4: To complete the Scatter Chart, check the Display Quadrant Line option in the Advanced Settings tab (in the Display tab).
Radar chart type
A radar chart is a useful way to display multiple data in the form and values represented on the axis starting from the same point.
Step 1: Select the Chart Setup section: Chart Type tab: Radar.
Simply choose the type you require, as below:
Step 2: Select the Chart Options tab. The X (Value) Axis field has all fields and the Y (Value) Axis Series can only be a numeric field. And the Secondary Axis option is removed under Y (Value) Axis settings.
Step 3: Customize the value of X-Axis and Y-Axis in the X-Axis tab and the Y-Axis tab.
The X-Axis tab settings should include the options Display X-Axis Labels, Display Major/Minor Gridlines, Category X-Axis Labels, and Sort. The “Primary Y-Axis Configuration” and “Secondary Y-Axis Configuration” options are removed from the Y-Axis tab because the chart does not display vertical bars and nothing else should change. However, you will notice the “Display Major Gridlines” option is selected default for both X-Axis and Y-Axis tabs to show the background chart.
Polar chart type
The polar Chart displays multivariate data, all starting from the same point. The X-axis is located on the boundaries of the circle and the Y-axis connects the center of the circle with the X-axis.
Step 1: Select the Chart Setup section: Chart Type tab: Polar. Simply choose the type you require, as below:
Step 2: Select the Chart Options tab.
The Secondary Axis option is removed under Y (Value) Axis settings as Radar because it does not support a secondary axis.
Step 3: Customize the value of X-Axis and Y-Axis in the X-Axis tab and the Y-Axis tab.
The X-Axis tab should mimic the Y-Axis tab settings but should include the options: Data Type Settings, Display X-Axis Labels, and Display Major/Minor Gridlines. The “Primary Y-Axis Configuration” and “Secondary Y-Axis Configuration” options are removed from the Y-Axis tab because the chart does not display vertical bars and nothing else changes. However, you will notice the “Display Major Gridlines” option is selected default for both X-Axis and Y-Axis tabs to show the background chart.
The data labels and tooltip format should also follow the same logic as scatter charts (“x, y”). The ‘Display Data Label’ setting should only be available from the Y-Axis tab and apply to both the x and y data labels (same logic as scatter charts).
Funnel chart type
The size of the area is determined by the series value as a percentage of the total of all values. Any funnel consists of the higher part called the head and the lower part referred to as the neck.
Step 1: Select the Chart Setup section: Chart Type tab: Funnel.
Simply choose the type you require:
Step 2: Select the Chart Options tab.
The Legend Title and Secondary Axis options are removed under Y (Value) Axis settings because they are not necessary as these charts do not contain an Axis line. And Funnel charts only allow 1 series, so we should not display the Add Series button.
Step 3: Customize the value of X-Axis and Y-Axis in the X-Axis tab and the Y-Axis tab.
The X-Axis tab should include Legend Title and Sort as Pie charts.
The Y-Axis tab should include Data Type Settings, Labels Position, and Display Units as Pie charts. However, the Labels Position drop-down contains the Center, Left, and Right.
