With Bamboo’s Data-Viewer Web Part, you can accomplish all of this and more. Whether you want to: customize the look and feel; allow users to group, filter, and sort; apply calculations and/or export items to Microsoft Excel; or customize the CSS, Data-Viewer Web Part is THE must-have tool for business intelligence and analytics. All these options, as well as the ability to: perform inline editing of data; apply conditional formatting and calculations to both the master data and the nested child data; and access Lists and List Rollup data views from all across your SharePoint farm, are all available now with the latest release of Data-Viewer Web Part. Here in part four, we’ll show you how to create a new item in a parent list and nested list.

To help celebrate the release of Data-Viewer Web Part version 3.6, we have put together a brand-new 8-part series that will walk you through how to use the product’s newest and most popular features. Let us show you how to create a new item in a parent list and nested list.

To begin, go to the tool pane. In the Column Display Settings dialog box, select the columns which you would like to be displayed on the Web Part in your nested list. In this example, we have chosen to display the following three columns: Product Name (i.e., Title), Profits (i.e., Currency), and Released Date (i.e., Date):

Return to your Home Site. You will now see the data for the three columns which you selected above displayed in Data-Viewer Web Part:

Next, return to the tool pane. To add your nested list, you will first need to configure the Web Part to display nested lists. To do this, go to Nested Data Settings:

Return to your Home Site. You will now see the data for the three columns you selected with their respective nested lists displayed in Data-Viewer Web Part:

Next, go to the tool pane. In the General Settings tab, select the Enable Add New Item checkbox:

On Data-Viewer Web Part, you will now see an Add New Item button displayed above your data. This button will allow you to add new items to a parent list and/or nested list.

To create a new item, click the Add New Item button on the parent list. Input the applicable information for your new item, as shown in the example below. When you have finished, click the Save button:

After you click Save, your data will be displayed, including the new item you just added above:

To create a new nested item, click the Add New Nested Item button on the nested list. Input the applicable information for your new item, as shown in the example below. When you have finished, click the Save button:
