These newly available Developer Solutions are designed to help reduce development time, effort, and costs associated with the deployment of SharePoint portal solutions. They include:
- Helper Web Parts are add-ons that solve specific system development needs, such as the SQL View Web Part. This web part enables users to quickly generate a SQL statement or database view for SharePoint list data to use with popular reporting applications, such as Microsoft® Access or Crystal® Reports. This and other web parts, including Password Change, Group Redirect, and Form AutoSave, are available for immediate download.
- Bamboo’s Business Components are add-ons that solve specific business needs. Bamboo’s extensive experience in delivering CAD drawing management solutions is clearly evident by these offerings. Business components currently scheduled for January release include a tool that extracts attribute values from user-defined blocks in an AutoCAD™ DWG file into list properties of a SharePoint document library, allowing users to view and search on metadata.
- Solution Accelerators provide developers with a jump-start on their portal. It enables developers to fast-track their development schedule by including the bulk of capabilities required in fully functional templates that can be quickly installed as a SharePoint site. All that is required is end-user customization. These templates, the first of which is scheduled for release in May 2006, including the Performance Measurement Accelerator.
Unlike many web parts available on the Internet today, Bamboo provides user documentation (including installation instructions, sample application use cases, and FAQs), standard and extended support options, as well as the convenience of an online user forum. Many web parts are offered with a free 30-day trial, allowing developers to “test drive” the web parts prior to purchase.
Bamboo Solutions has joined the growing trend moving towards the .NET platform and SharePoint is a natural extension of that move. SharePoint provides a standard platform where applications, such as those provide by Bamboo Solutions, can be implemented and connected quickly. For the past two years, Bamboo has shifted its product focus and has implemented SharePoint solutions for various applications such as grants management portals and collaborative review portals.
