Announcing the Latest Release of Data-Viewer Web Part with New Features Including Web Part Connection

The Bamboo Data-Viewer Web Part allows you to connect to and display list, SQL table/view, List Rollup, or other external data within a Web Part without having to use SharePoint Designer. You can customize the look and feel, allow users to group, filter, sort, apply calculations and/or export items to Microsoft Excel, and customize the CSS or change the Web Part skin. Data-Viewer Web Part also provides powerful features such as displaying nested child data, dynamic filtering, and inline editing of master data. Furthermore, Data Viewer can connect to other SharePoint Web Parts and filter data from connected Web Parts to your specifications. Moreover, in the latest version, users are now able to use filter settings, sort settings, conditional format settings, and calculated settings for nested list data.

Let’s take a tour of Data Viewer Web Part release 3.4.

Data Source:

Data-Viewer Web Part can connect to these following data sources:

  • SharePoint Lists and Libraries
  • SQL Server Table or View
  • Bamboo Solutions List Rollup
  • Microsoft Business Connectivity Services (BCS)

 

When you select any data source type, you will see that all available functions are displayed in the tool pane, such as Select Columns to Be Displayed, Sort, Group, Filter, and Number of Items to Display:

Select Columns to Be Displayed: You will see all columns shown here in the “Available Columns” list box, and you may select and remove one or all of the columns using the buttons highlighted in red below:

Sort function: You may sort for two columns in list at the same time:

Group Function: Allows users to select two columns to group at the same time:

Filter function: By default, allow users to select two columns to filter at the same time. In addition, you may add up to five columns to filter:

Regarding Analysis Settings, you will see three main functions:

 

o Nested List Settings

o Conditional Formatting

o Calculated Settings

Nested List Settings: These settings allow you to show child data connected to the master SharePoint List or SQL table/view data through a Lookup column or reference field. Similar to the Master list, Nested Lists also use filter settings and sort settings as well:

Conditional Formatting: Allow the user to define any special font and color that should occur based on a defined set of rules in the Data-Viewer Web Part. This function supports both Master and Nested lists. In addition, you can add more than 100 rules for each of them:

Calculated Settings: Allow the user to define calculations to be displayed based on a defined set of rules in the Data-Viewer Web Part. This function supports both Master and Nested lists.

General Settings: Allow User Filter, Group, Sort, Edit data, Add New Items, Export Data to Excel directly on grid view:

With release 3.4 of Data-Viewer Web Part, you will also see a new feature, “Web Part connection”:

This new feature is also a filter function, allowing users to filter data with Web Part Connections.

When editing the Web Part, you will see a new function, “Web Part connection,” shown in the drop down menu which allows you to connect to a SharePoint list. With this function, you can filter based on data connections as follows:
