New Faces of Bamboo: Introducing Pooja Singh

Editor’s note:

Longtime readers may recall our “New Faces” series, in which we would introduce the new faces of Bamboo Nation. Here’s our latest crop of new hires that we are excited to acquaint you with! Without further ado let us introduce to you, Pooja Singh.

When did you join the Bamboo Solutions team, and what is your role?

I joined the team on August 1st, 2014 as a Support Engineer.

What are your personal goals regarding your position for the next year?

I aim to understand all products’ functionalities and reach a high level of comfort in my ability to troubleshoot and find root causes for issues. I hope to advance in my position and take up more responsibilities in order to sustain my learning process.

What’s your professional background?

I graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and a minor in Business. Academically, I have attained knowledge in the applied basics of programming, networking, web development, and telecommunications. I was initially a Business major, due to which I have a few management and administration experience under my belt. My love for technology led me to change my major, after which I was hired as an Intern, followed by the Systems Analyst role at a Healthcare Company in Tyson’s Corner.

What prompted you to join the Bamboo team?

I was interested in Bamboo due to my passion for software development lifecycles and Microsoft. Although I did not have much experience in SharePoint, with my customer support background, I believed that I would be a good fit for the company, while having the chance to attempt to become an expert in SharePoint. It didn’t take me a long time to realize that I made a great decision to join.

What were some of your first impressions of working at Bamboo?

I felt comfortable as soon as I walked into my interview. Everyone was welcoming and focused on the mission of the company. The company does not only focus on its business values, but also practices being green, and the employers are well taken care of. I liked that we work with all different types of customers using different products, which has been challenging and fun at the same time.

With over 70 products to learn, do you feel overwhelmed?  What’s your strategy for getting up to speed?

I felt overwhelmed in the beginning, but the team leads and the senior engineers were so helpful that it did not take long to figure out how I would tackle learning all the products. As we indulge in supporting and learning from each other, I have been able to gain knowledge of products fast. First, I skimmed through all products so that I have an overall idea of what is provided to customers. Then, I have been focused on more popular products and slowly picked up on other ones.

Other than your deep and abiding love of extending SharePoint, what interests or hobbies do you enjoy outside of work?

I love talking about everything politics, media, and technology. My passion for learning allows me to bring about a new interest anytime I get a chance. I love sports, especially everything football. I love being outdoors and wish that winter didn’t exist. I am a huge science lover and plan on changing lives.
