Considering taking valuable data from within your own space and putting it in the Cloud raises immediate questions about visibility, security, and control. After that comes the question of compliance; and from there the list goes on.
According to the 2015 AIIM report: “Connecting and Implementing SharePoint – important strategy choices,” 62 percent of AIIM survey respondents named security as a priority issue; the second came information governance at 51 percent; ability to manage hybrid allocations at 46 percent; integration with on-premises systems at 45 percent; ability to migrate content at 43 percent; and geographical location of servers at 43 percent.
These are serious concerns raised by serious people, who potentially have a lot to gain and a lot to lose. Microsoft’s enthusiasm and belief in its powerful innovations and the business world’s natural caution is understandable. The answer to that issue – as with most issues – is to start a conversation.
At the 2015 RSA Conference in San Francisco, Vijay Kuman – Sr. Product Manager of the Office 365 security team, and David Cross – Director of Engineering for Azure Security, made a great start to that conversation in a presentation highlighting important questions – and providing straight forward answers – about data ownership, data storage, third-party requests, and security and compliance.
