How to Create a Second Web Application Using the Default Port in SharePoint 2013

Creating a SharePoint Web application is one of the common operations in SharePoint 2013. In this article, I will walk through the process of creating a second Web application using the default port 80 in SharePoint 2013.

1.    Go to Manage web applications > Select default port 80 > click New on the Ribbon:

2.    Under “Create a new IIS web site,” enter your Port and Host Header.  In this example, I have chosen “Thy” for my IIS site name and host header name. Change the port number to 80, and use the default for the rest of the settings.

3.    After you have created your port, you will get a message box that confirms that the application was created successfully.  On this screen, click the Create Site Collection hyperlink:

4.    Create a root site collection for the new Web application:

After you have finished creating the site collection, add an entry in the host file located at C:WindowsSystem32Driversetchosts:

You are now able to browse to the site collection entering the site’s URL:
