You asked for it, and here it is: Your business isn't limited to one site collection, why should your workflows have to be? New for Workflow Conductor 1.5, your SharePoint workflows can now access items in other site collections! What does this mean? Let me explain…

Let's say you want a workflow to copy a document from one site collection to another. Before today, Workflow Conductor was limited to copying items to another library in the same site – just like SharePoint Designer workflows. Not any more! Conductor can now copy that document to a library in any site in any site collection configured in the Web application.

How does it work? For any Widget that supports cross-site collection access, simply select the target Site Collection, Site, and List in the Widget properties – it's that easy! Here's an example:

Access to other site collections is not limited to copying items. Here are just a few of the other cross-site collection activities available in Workflow Conductor:

  • Create, update, or delete items in other site collections
  • Check In and Check Out documents in other site collections
  • Create a new list in another site collection
  • Pause a workflow until an item in another site collection changes
  • Use a workflow in one site collection to trigger a workflow in another

Cross-site collection access works for Workflow Conductor External Lookups, too. Wherever you can use a lookup, you can lookup values stored in other site collections.
