Chart Plus: How to Obtain a Data Source Stored in Microsoft Business Connectivity Service (BCS)

Business Connectivity Services (BCS) is a centralized infrastructure in SharePoint® that supports integrated data solutions. The BCS brings external data into SharePoint by creating an external content type. This means, of course, that the configuration data is stored in an external content type. External content types are stored in the BCS.

Question: Do we directly obtain the data source stored in Microsoft Business Connectivity Services in Chart Plus?

Answer: Yes.

In two simple steps, you can create a chart from data stored in BCS.

In the example below, I”ll choose from two external content types:

These are the default settings of BCS.

Click the Book picker button. Select Application Name on the List Applications Picker popup. Click OK.

You will see two external content types stored in the BCS in the Entity drop-down.

I will choose the Products option to create a chart.

Good luck!
