Discussion Board Plus for SharePoint 2010 enhances the out-of-the-box SharePoint Discussion Board adding features such as Lock Topic, Mark as Sticky, Verify Answer, Suggest as Answer, etc. Additional details are available in the product release announcement.
In addition to the features mentioned above, Discussion Board Plus also offers a special permission configuration based on SharePoint permissions. In this post, we’ll take a tour and see how the permissions for Discussion Board Plus work.
1. Who can Lock/Unlock Topics?
The user, who has Manage List permission or Full Control permission or Topic creator permission (with manage list or full control or System Account right) or exists on Site Collection Administrator group, can verify answer for topic. This is to make sure that only users, who has permission from manage list to up, can do this.
2. Who can Mark/Unmark topics as Sticky?
Users who have Manage List permission, Full Control permission, or Topic creator permission (with manage list or full control or System Account rights), and/or users who exist in the Site Collection Administrator group can mark/unmark topics as Sticky. This is to make sure that only those users who have at least manage lists permission can do this.
3. Who can Verify Answer for topics?
Users who have Full Control permission or Topic creator permission, and/or who exist in the Site Collection Administrator group can verify answers for topics. This is to make sure that only those users who have at least topic creator permission can do this.
4. Who can Suggest an Answer?
Users who have the Manage List, Full Control, or Topic creator rights, and/or who exist in the Site Collection Administrator group can suggest an answer for topics.
This means that those users who have at least manage lists permission can do this.
5. Who can Mark as Not Answer?
Users who have Full Control or Topic creator rights, and/ or exist in the Site Collection Administrator group, and/or those users who have marked Suggest as Answer for the same topic previously can suggest as answer for topic.
This means that users who have held Suggest as Answer permissions for a given topic in the past can still do this.
