SPC11: Day 2 Report from the Bamboo Booth

As I mentioned yesterday, this isn’t exactly my first SharePoint event, so I usually know what to expect in the Bamboo booth.  As I’m sure other vendors would attest, booth traffic normally peaks on the opening day of a show, and then slowly declines throughout the week.  Not at SPC 2011!  Tuesday was our busiest day yet, with a steady stream of people to the booth, and even a line to see demos – not quite as bad as the one for Space Mountain at the official conference party at Disneyland last night, but close!  Of course, we’re always happy to give out t-shirts and pandas to attendees, but we were even more excited that most people were there to actually see our products and to learn more about Bamboo.  The excitement for Community Central seems to be growing each day, and it’s fun demoing this product to people from companies who are looking to begin hosting forums and writing blogs, both for internal information and also for public consumption.  The feedback has been great so far, and we’ve already gotten a handful of enhancement requests!  As usual, we get a good mix of people who are happy Bamboo customers as well as people relatively new to SharePoint who are looking to learn more about third party solutions that can enhance their SharePoint deployment.  One advantage of having over 70 products is that 99% of the time we have something for everyone, no matter where they are in their SharePoint maturity.

Some other observations from the exhibit hall floor:

  • There are lots of people still migrating to 2010. I fielded a lot of questions from customers about migrating their current products to 2010 and was surprised to hear from a decent amount of folks that are still on SharePoint 2007.

  • A wide variety of companies. There are plenty of the Fortune 500 representatives here (BP, Citibank, etc.), but I’ve also met lots of people from various branches of our Armed Forces, and from a variety of different colleges and universities around the country.
  • Traveling across the country is nothing – I’ve talked to people from Austria, Turkey, and Taiwan who are far more jetlagged than us!
  • There are lots of users here who aren’t just in IT or developers. I’ve talked to several customers who described themselves as “business users,” and they, too, are happy with the wide variety of sessions available at the SPC.

We’ve still got two more days in the booth, so I’ll be sure to keep you updated on any new happenings as we expect a steady stream of visitors in booth #339 until we close up shop on Thursday afternoon.  Folks attending SPC, what have you observed so far about this year’s show?
