The self-serve portal enables employees to track, audit building changes for modification, renovation, and construction of U.S. facilities
Bamboo Solutions, the leading provider of technologies that enhance Microsoft SharePoint, and Cadac Organice Americas the leader in Engineering Solutions on SharePoint announced today the readiness of a Microsoft SharePoint-based CAD drawing management solution for the United States Social Security Administration (SSA). The combined Microsoft, Bamboo Solutions, and Cadac Organice solution provides a robust, self-serve environment which empowers SSA employees to track and audit building changes for ongoing modification, renovation, and construction of their facilities across the United States.
The agency’s responsibilities include assigning Social Security numbers to U.S. citizens, maintaining earnings records for workers under their Social Security numbers, and administering the Supplemental Security Income program for the aged, blind, and disabled. Tasked with the mission to deliver these services while keeping in step with the changing needs of the public, the nationwide SSA facilities require regular modifications and renovations.
The self-serve portal application allows SSA employees, facility engineers, and CAD designers to efficiently and securely communicate information regarding the as-built condition of their facilities across the country. Utilizing Bamboo and Cadac Organice products, the SSA is able to utilize Microsoft SharePoint 2007 to better serve the very specialized requirements of their engineering drawing management application. Bamboo’s Bulk Import and DWG Parser Solution Accelerator components make it easy to import large volumes of legacy files and drawings while automatically extracting and populating drawing title block information as SharePoint list data. Engineers who need to edit stored drawing files to reflect the as-built conditions can easily do so using Cadac Organice Explorer. Once a drawing file has reached an as-built state, it is published using Cadac Organice Publish into PDF and DWF formats. This ensures secure, read-only access to users who simply need to view and/or print files. Facility engineers, space/building managers, and others can browse the As-Built Drawing Repository using Bamboo’s Tree View Web Part, or search for specific files using the Bamboo List Search Web Part. The solution optimizes team collaboration and provides secure drawing access to a wide variety of SSA personnel.
“Bamboo has been delivering products and services to the U.S. Government for many years. “We have over 200 customers worldwide managing engineering projects and drawings within our SharePoint-based document management solution. Along with Microsoft and Bamboo, we are proud to also serve the U.S. Government with this solution and are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to an efficient workspace,” says Edwin Elmendorp, President, Cadac Organice Americas.
The solution will go live in the fall of 2010 with plans currently underway to migrate to SharePoint 2010 in the near future. Visit the Bamboo website at http://bamboosolutions.com/ or visit Cadac Organice at http://www.organice.com/ for more information.
